Watershed Management Technology Options and their Impacts on Hydrological Characteristics

چکیده
Watershed degradation is a serious environmental problem in Indonesia and the main causes can be differentiated between Java and the other outer islands. In the outer islands, degradation is caused mainly by rapid and heavy deforestation due to logging, fire, and forestland conversion for transmigration and smallholder plantations (World Bank, 1990). In Java, it is generated by population pressure, deforestation, and industrial development. The more populated islands of Java, Madura, Bali, and Lombok cover only about 8% of the country's total area but comprises about 70% of the total population. The forest area is only 22% compared to 65% to 90% in the other islands. From 1883 to 1983, the rainfed uplands and irrigated areas increased from 0.640 to 3.407 million ha, and from 1,845 to 3,501 million ha, respectively.

Adaptation Technology: Benefits of Hydrological Services—Watershed Management in Semi-Arid Region of India
Watershed management consists of multifunctional activities to manage and address the increasing water resource problems. Ever increasing water demand and rapidly depleting water resources, it has become necessary to develop the adaptation options to recharge groundwater resources. A watershed is a special kind of Common Pool Resources (CPRs); an area is defined by hydrological linkages where o...
متن کاملMonitoring of Management Practices and Hydrological Response in the Representative and Paired Watersheds of Iran-Part one
The early 20th century has been unique because of the initiation of paired watersheds (PWs) research in several world regions. So that, between 1930 and 1970, there was a significant expansion in the setting up PWs. They are currently being used for management and conservation objectives due to their special potential and appropriate research facilities. Undoubtedly, without having comparative ...
متن کاملEvaluation of Climate Change Impacts on Hydrological Characteristics of Watershed (Case study: Aji- Chai Watershed)
Studying climate change impact on hydrological variables such as runoff has attracted more attention over recent years mainly due to the imposed imbalance in climate system by greenhouse gas emission. Hence, initially in this research, the trend and abrupt changes of hydro – climatic variables were studied using data mining approaches in 18 stations over 40 years (1972-2011) in Aji-Chai waters...
متن کاملSimulation of Water Balance Components Using a Distributed Hydrological Model in Taleghan Watershed
Water changes information in the hydrological system, in time and space, as an environmental issue takes heed of managers and decision makers in watershed management and river engineering, which can be addressed by using spatially distributed modeling. In this study simulation of water balance components in Taleghan mountainous watershed is performed using the spatially distributed hydrological...
متن کاملAn Evaluation of the Optimal Change Scenarios of Land Use and their Impacts on the Hydrological Parameters: A Case Study of Dinevar Watershed
EXTENDED ABSTRACT The land use change of watersheds has entailed many impacts on the processes of erosion and sediment yield over the time, and has caused the loss of soil quality and fertility. On the other hand, an increase in the sediment generation and its accumulation would reduce the capacity of the reservoirs. In this respect, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects o...
